EDNA's got the June Bug

Updated: Jun 10, 2023

Hey friendsies and fansies! I got a new hat!

Welcome to summer! It's been a long spring. I was involved in that play, "Exhaustion Arroyo" that I mentioned in my last blog for six weeks! In that time I did get quite exhausted. And I also sprained my ankle. Still not fully healed from that so I haven't been able to dance in a while, but I'm trying to remain patient.

June is a bit slow for me and by that I mean I only have 4 local shows and then I'm off to Michigan for a festival! I'm going to miss SF Pride, but for me, pride is every day.

SHOWS UPCOMING:

I've had the privilege to stage manage a show for Tenderloin community group, Skywatchers at Cutting Ball theater and their show premieres this weekend. Go see it tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 PM or on Sunday at 3 PM!

Tomorrow I'm playing Sofia Vergara in an AGT style wedding reception out of town so that should be fun. It's private, but I'll be sure to take photos.

Thursday, June 15th at 9 PM I'm performing in ROYALES Pride show at El Rio, hosted by the ever captivating king, Hennessy Williams! The theme is Greek gods of EDM. Stoked!

Then, that whole weekend I'll be bringing me and Noam Osband's satirical comedy show, Brother Love's Goodtime Gospel Hour to San Francisco! We have been performing various versions of this show at Fresno's Rogue Fest for three years and it's time we share it with our community!

We were first in line on the SF Fringe wait list, but nobody dropped out so your chance to see it is this weekend - June 16-18th, (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) at 8 PM at the new Church of Clown in Bayshore!

For tickets, click HERE or the flyer photo to your left.

Also on June 17th, I'll be performing at Mars Bar for my mama's drag brunch!

Later in June I'll be at Electric Forests in Michigan performing with a troupe and I have no idea what I'll be doing yet. Even if I could, I couldn't tell you. But it will be fun. I'll share pics!

A queer short film I'm in has been making the national festival circuit this year with much success! "In(convenience)" has received some accolades, including Best Narrative Short in the San Francisco Independent Festival at the Roxie where it premiered. We've now been added to the movie lineup for San Francisco's queer film festival, FRAMELINE! Tickets HERE! I won't be there but do go see it. I have a bit part, but it's really sweet story.

Our amazing bipoc group has been steadily working on a half improvised feature film, set to shoot next year in New Mexico! We'll be showing the progress onstage in October for StormMiguel's "Welcome to Roswell!"

On the bottom right corner of the left photo is Marcia Aguilar Kailan, whose new play I dramaturged through 3Girls Theater. This pic below is from our staged reading at Phoenix Theater this week. It was so good! I am looking forward to seeing Marcia develop it onstage!

As always, I continue to write late night style jokes, even through the writer's strike, on my Patreon. To subscribe, CLICK HERE!

IN CASE YOU MISSED:

The final review of the play I was in for 5 weeks: "Exhaustion Arroyo"

Click on the photo below to hear the highlight on KQED about it!

The cast was also surprised by a loose induction into the Free Masons fraternity on one of our closing nights! We were like, waaaaaa?

It was my second year in a row teaching a drag class with Mercury Divine for Oaklash drag festival! We had a great time with 4 students and some crew, including the ASL translators! Last year we focused on foundations in Commedia D'ell Arte and this year we focused on social commentary through interpretation of lyrics.

So you know I'm not a kid person, but I do appreciate kids that learn the arts! I was the Spanish translator for Prescott Circus's show in Oakland last month. It was really fun! Here is a photo of me with clown, Tristan Cunningham and ASL translator, Sierra, through Probono ASL.

I was booked for a queer standup show called Safe Words at The Eagle last month and it went really well! I performed with some really incredible comics and it was such a packed house we had to move the show outside to the patio. I guess standup isn't so bad.

I leave you with this comic style anecdote by my longtime friend, Levni Yilmaz, the artist of "Tales of Mere Existence" YouTube series. Take care of our bugs and bees!

That's all for now! Hope to see you at an event soon and enjoy Pride!!!!
